Positive times continue as Tavernier gets new deal

James Tavernier will sign a new contract, as we tweeted yesterday, tying him to Rangers for several years to come. That news and tweet was widely well received & shows just how fondly the support feel about the marauding full back.

His recent performances have earned the player his new deal and he was rightly captain on Sunday as Rangers progressed past Ayr in the Scottish cup.

Not only has James improved immensely on the pitch, he has grown off it too. His recent mistake against Hibs at home which cost Rangers a sort penalty and ultimately the game, Tav took to social media to apologise and express his determination to atone for the error. He produced an arguably Man of the match display and a fine goal in a 0-2 victory at Firhill. Showing not only does he have the skill but mental determination to bounce back which is needed a club like ours.

His recent performance against ‘them’ in the 0-0 New Year draw was exceptional and he drove his side on creating several chances with his crossing. A performance not seen in that position since the days that Gary Stevens wore number 2.

But Tavernier’s new contract also heralds another victory for the board and DOF. The vision that they now collectively share for the club is one the players are buying into, as Januarys excellent recruitment shows.

Players want to be at our club, players want to stay at our club and the future is extremely bright. As the club look to extend the contracts of David Bates and Josh Windass amongst others, it shows the vision the club have, which the fans have been crying out for.

Things are moving in the right direction off the pitch and I truly believe the base is being put in place on it too. We have an excellent young squad which I believe is 3-4 additions away from being at the level we need to be.

January set the tone for the squad and was part one of the jigsaw in terms of transfer windows. We have talked before about the level of player we are looking at and we have every reason to be confident for the summer. It was never going to be one window and it certainly looks like the club are learning from past mistakes.

But this season is far from done, it will be difficult but the club is still fighting for the Scottish Cup and we are in with a shot. A little bit of belief and we could have that glory our fans truly deserve. Why shouldn’t we believe it’s possible?

As the Directors continue to strive off and on the pitch with ground improvements, financial positives and investment in the squad, we can be happy with where we truly are for the first time in several years.

On the pitch we must hope the players go on that run which can forge results consistently to put that base in place going forward. I don’t know about anyone else but I can’t help but feel we are about to click and do exactly that.

With players like James Tavernier staying we can be confident that we are heading in the right direction. Hopefully new merchandising and sponsorship deals, now that we are free from the talons of Ashley, will continue to bring positivity for our club.

The base is there to take the next step back to where we belong, at the top of Scottish football rightfully as the country’s most successful.

As ever, ignore the nonsense, the Irrelevant and the noise 🔴⚪️🔵
