Rangers season 2018/19 expectations and predictions – Part two

Yesterday we put out our first part of the season predictions and such was the response, we have split the replies into several parts.

So today we present the second part of our predictions and first up is River City actor Stephen Purdon @stephen_purdon

SPFL finishing place & why – 1st. I know it’s a big ask but i just feel the presence of gerrard is going to bring us on leaps and bounds and a feel we might just sneak it this year, but it’ll be very close

Top Goal scorer – Morelos. He has undoubted potential and I know he was a bit up and down last year but he still got 14 goals in what was a very difficult campaign for us, but i really feel he can kick on this season and add more to his game.

Player of the year – Scott Arfield. Still can’t believe we got him on a free, superb piece of business from the club, I have very high hopes for him this season, really feel he’ll be a leader on and off the pitch, and could be our main man this season

Young player of the year – Glenn Middleton. He’s been making a bit of a name for himself with the youngsters since he come up her from Norwich, I think we’ll see quite a bit of him in the 1st team this season, as we seen against bury at the weekend, he doesn’t look out of place and supplied 2 assists. Another 1 I’ve got high hopes for

Signing of the year – Scott Arfield, for all the reasons I’ve mentioned above!

Season expectations – I think the main objective is to restore rangers to the top of Scottish football and stop Celtic’s dominance, in my opinion that’s got to be the expectation at the moment, winning trophies has always got to be the expectation at this club

European expectations – first and foremost not to have a repeat of last season!! It’ll be a big ask, but getting to the group stages of the Europa would be a great achievement for the club, and financially it would be very important to us

Management expectations – the expectations right now are through the roof after the appointment of gerrard, but like all new managers hel need time, but as a player he was a winner and 1 of if not the best of his generation and i really feel hel be a success.

Season surprise – Gerrard. His 1st job in management and winning the title in his 1st season!! 🔴⚪️🔵

Now it’s the turn of the lads from this blog, so we asked resident artwork specialist Stu Hamilton @_stuhamilton

SPFL finishing place & why – top of the pile. Aim high! Always start every season thinking we can win the league but realistically, giving Celtic as much a challenge as we can will be acceptable.

Top Goal scorer – Alfredo Morelos

Player of the year – James Tavernier

Young player of the year – Ross McCrorie

Signing of the year – Allan McGregor

Season expectations – a league and/or cup would be incredible. Want to see us stop dropping silly points and mount a serious challenge.

European expectations – groups stages at least I hope. The qualifying stages have some serious competition in the run up to the groups.

Management expectations – if he balls as good as he talks, we’ll be on to a winner and as he said – “got a different feeling in me stomach”

Next up from the blog is Alexander Staff @strider80

I think we’ll finish 2nd this season. It’s a big ask for anyone to turn around where we’ve been this past couple of seasons into league winners in the space of a year. Hopefully, I’m just being somewhat pessimistic there!

Top Goalscorer:

Josh Windass to step up and get more goals than he did last season. If Morelos stays, it might be close between them again.

Player of the Year:

Jamie Murphy

Young Player of the Year:

Ross McCrorie

Signing of the Year:

I think Scott Arfield will prove to be invaluable. Adaptable and has clear ability.

Season expectations:

As earlier – 2nd place. I do think a cup is coming our way though, we’ve been knocking on that door.

European expectations:

If we can get through the first 2 rounds and get a kind draw, we may just make it to the groups. The only thing I hope for here is that any elimination happens against a team we shouldn’t be beating.

Management expectations:

Gerrard, Mark Allen, the scouting team and our coaches will look to bring in and develop players at Rangers. We’ll be less likely to sign players over 30, and we’ll see serious improvements from some of our current squad.

Season surprise:

Greg Docherty. Many seem to have written him off somewhat. I think he’ll prove to be a great player.

Four our next prediction we went to Ibrox itself and spoke with Director of operations Colin Stewart @RFC_Colin

SPFL Finish – 1st because Steven Gerrard is here for 55

Top Goal Scorer: Scott Arfield (or our next signing 😀)

Player of Year: Scott Arfield

Young Player of the Year: The obvious choice would be Ross but I’ll go with Glenn Middleton. First team star in the making

Signing of Year: I want to say Arfield again but let’s go with Goldson simply because he will (hopefully) close the back door and stop us losing silly goals

Player of the Year: I can’t avoid it – Arfield

Season Expectations: Run them close and give them a fright. Win a cup and get to the Europa Group Stages, drawing a Euro giant on the way giving us big Euro nights at Ibrox. Re the Youth area – simply continue the great work already being done. If you liked the look of the youths who featured v Bury then wait until you see the current U18 Group

Euro expectations: Group Stage although this season Europe is a bonus

Management Expectations: SG to stand majestically at the side of the pitch while opposing managers lose the plot & are sent to the stands. SG to not even glance in their direction as they trudge down the tunnel. SG to sit with his feet on the desk while doing a crossword and easily batting away the constant barrage of nonsense Qs from the Scottish Media

Season Surprise: Scottish media owners will employ fair and unbiased reporters who will write fair and unbiased reports on Rangers. Rangers fans start buying newspapers again because of the fair and unbiased reports on Rangers. Stop laughing at the back

**************

We will be back tomorrow with the third and final part of our predictions ahead of season 2018/19, let us know your thoughts as the season begins for real this evening
