In another of our series of club led interviews, we met with John MacFarlane who is the facilities manager at Ibrox Stadium. This is part of the wide range of interviews made available by Rangers as part of the new ‘forward facing’ engagement with the support.
John is exactly what his role describes, in charge of all the facilities at the stadium as well as the training ground and New Edmiston House. From fixing lights to upgrading the facilities, John is tasked with making sure the stadium gets the required attention.
In this interview it gave us the chance to try and ask John some of the burning questions that are always on the minds of supporters. You can hear the full interview on the links at the top of the page.
Some of the things John is not in charge of and we didn’t ask was the WIFI stadium issues which falls under IT support. We also didn’t ask on Food Kiosks as there is no imminent plans to radically change the structure of these, at which time John would be involved.
Any stadium redevelopment, because at this stage that is still a boardroom level decision and the next fans forum with James Bisgrove should give us more details on that, as I’m sure it will be a topic of discussion.
So these were not ignored, just simply doesn’t fall within Johns remit. What we were able to discuss was issues with the seats, toilets, stadium cladding and stadium cleanliness. As well as ongoing projects around the stadium and training ground.

Interview format
– Introduction
– Update on the proposed seat upgrades we saw on social media during the summer?
– Update on the Toilet facilities within the stadium and timescales surrounding any proposed upgrades
– External footprint update, including proposed tarmac upgrade
– Stadium cleaning
– Various projects updates, from LED pitch screens to kitchen appliances
– Training ground latest upgrade news

John has afforded the blog the chance to return and get a regular update on these projects as well as others around the stadium and the training ground so we have another chat scheduled for just after the new year.
This will allow us to revisit the above questions and get an update as well as the latest on any new projects throughout the club and answer any further questions we may have.
Our series of club interviews will continue, with many lined up to get the latest on the newly opened museum as well as the new online ticket system scheduled for the end of the season. We will also get an update on the new proposed Sports Bar, G51, which will go into the space vacated by the club shop as well as the new Gordon Ramsay restaurant and many other updates on the latest Rangers news.
Our thanks extend to the club for this access and communication with the support.
