45 mins – Morelos heads another Tavernier corner wide, he has to score! 0-1

Half Time Rangers 0 Celtic 1

Really turgid opening 25mins which Celtic completely controlled and could have got more. A gift of an opener after extremely poor pass by Morelos and then Tavernier who flakes out of a 50/50 challenge. Then it swung as Morelos closed down a Hart kick, he gave it to Kamara who fed Kent who’s shot is well saved by Hart onto the post.

From there Rangers well more in the contest and more on the ball but unable to create many clear opportunities, the best coming from set pieces as Morelos headed over two clear chances, the second of which he has to do so much better.

All to do in the second half.

2nd half action

65 mins – Game stopped for a VAR check for possible handball in box against Rangers. The game restarts nothing given. 2-1

69 mins – Another VAR penalty check is waved away as Celtic pressure.

70 mins – Lundstram OFF Jack ON

75 mins – Brilliant defending by Tavernier who takes a bad knock to the face as he heads clear at back post. Tav bleeding from nasty nose injury. 2-1

77 mins – Maeda and Hetate OFF Jota and Giakoumakis ON Celtic.

80 mins – Scott Wright ON Alfredo Morelos OFF

84 mins – Malik Tillman OFF James Sands ON

88 mins – Goal Celtic. Rangers don’t defend well and it breaks to Kyogo who fires home. 2-2

90 mins – Seven minutes added

Full time – Rangers 2 Celtic 2

A much better second from Rangers but the late equaliser hurts a lot. A fabulous turnaround in the first ten minutes of the second half, led by a superb Fashion Sakala Rangers scored a beauty from Ryan Kent to equalise. Fashion then won a penalty which Tavernier expertly fired home.

Rangers then sat in to hit on the break and Malik Tillman delayed an effort after Kent put him through which would have put Rangers clear. He didn’t, we didn’t and inevitably Celtic equalised as Kyogo fired a shot into the roof of the net as Rangers failed to clear.

In the end a draw not really good enough, but ultimately not the worst with this squad which still badly needs fresh legs and new ideas, especially in midfield. There is an argument to say Michael Beale has done really well with this squad, an even bigger one to say that if you give him the correct tools to do the job he will succeed in the long term.
