Champagne Čolak causes chaos in Rangers romp

Rangers today play high flying St Mirren at Ibrox as we begin a vital period before the world cup break. Liverpool return awaits us in midweek, but today is all about league duty as we look to improve on a very good performance last week at Tynecastle.

Rangers haven’t maybe hit the heights performance wise consistently but domestically chances have started to come so if both can meet somewhere hopefully that run of form will come.

The manager made some interesting comments on selection yesterday, he wants more from Ryan Kent and hinted that Antonio Čolak and Alfredo Morelos may play together. Unsurprisingly he hasn’t chosen to go that way today but there is changes up front.

Team selection today is:

RANGERS: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Davies, Barasic, Jack, Lundstrum, Arfield, Matondo, Sakala, Colak.

SUBS: McLaughlin, Yilmaz, Kent, Kamara, Sands, Morelos, Wright, King, Tillman.

First half action

5 mins – GOOOAAALLLL! Antonio Čolak follows up Barisic drive which hits the post and bounces out. Great start for Rangers 1-0!

10 mins – SAVE! McGregor dives to stop a Grieve effort on the spin. 1-0

11 mins – SAVE! Ryan Jack drive is well saved by Carson, lovely short corner. 1-0

12 mins – SAVE! Carson tips a Tavernier shot over, twice, after first effort wasn’t properly dealt with. 1-0

Good Rangers pressure, Sakala is very wide meaning Tavernier is finding a lot of space, Rangers doing well. 1-0

20 mins – SAVE! Carson with a comfortable save but a great move from Rangers. Lundstram and Jack move it well and it frees Tavernier again. 1-0

25 mins – SHOT! Arfield nicks the ball and feeds Čolak who 30 yards out turns and hits just over. Great effort. 1-0

30 mins – PENALTY TO RANGERS! Sakala good work out wide and sets up Tavernier, his front post cross finds Čolak and Gallagher takes him out late and needlessly.

GOOOAAAAALLLL! Tavernier converts the spot kick and 2-0 Rangers!

35 mins – CHANCE! St Mirren free header at the back post is weak but a reminder to Rangers there. 2-0

37 mins – Jack drives an effort over after more good football from Rangers. 2-0

38 mins – CAUTION MAIN 📒

HALF TIME RANGERS 2 ST MIRREN 0

Second half action

50 mins – Slow start but Sakala with a sharp turn and shot wins Rangers a corner, was well done by Fashion. 2-0

57 mins – POST! Matondo run and skelps a long range effort off the post. Great effort. 2-0

63 mins – SUBSTITUTIONS – Ben Davies off, Leon King On. Rabbi Matondo off, Ryan Kent On.

68 mins – WHAT A SAVE! Allan McGregor with a world class one on one save, Rangers sleeping through parts of this half and keeper keeps it at 2-0.

73 mins – GOOOOAAAALLL! brilliant burst from Sakala and he sets up Čolak who cuts inside then flicks a ball home with the outside of his boot. That was a thing of beauty. 3-0!

86 mins – BAR! Curtis Main strikes the bar with a long range effort.

87 mins – SAVE! McGregor with another very good stop, Rangers switching off twice, he’s not happy!!

90 mins – GOALLLL! Sakala with a cracking goal after a great team move. Tavernier found Morelos who flicked through for Fashion to finish really well. He’s deserved that for an excellent display 4-0!

FULL TIME – RANGERS 4 ST MIRREN 0

An excellent first half for Rangers. Very dangerous in front of goal and moved the ball well. Quick start with Antonio Čolak strike and then subsequent penalty, within 30 mins, set them up for a second half performance.

Bit of a slower second half as Rangers went through the motions somewhat before an outstanding Allan McGregor save sparked them into life.

An outstanding move added a third with an exquisite Antonio Čolak finish after good work from Fashion Sakala. Fashion Sakala added a sensational fourth after a great team move and he thoroughly deserved that.

A good afternoon for Rangers with lots of great moments in attack and with the ball. Tempo dipped slightly but raised again with more goals, after a big week to be expected and thoroughly good performance overall.
