Rangers coast to St Johnstone victory / Manager reaction

Rangers welcome St Johnstone for our first Ibrox fixture since Celtic at the turn of the year. Michael Beale’s good run has continued even if performance has been patchy in places throughout.

Of course, transfers dominate most peoples minds at this stage in the season and thoughts head mainly towards that. Michael Beale has fuelled that somewhat by saying those might be close so we wait somewhat impatiently for news.

As for today, we met St Johnstone just last week so we know what to expect. This time it’s on our surface and hopefully helps a good performance. A debut also for Todd Cantwell.

Match reaction

Rangers created a lot today but a combination of poor finishing and outstanding goalkeeping kept the score down. The first half sparked into life when a cross was handled and Rangers took the lead as Tavernier finished well from the spot.

Then the flashpoints, Nicky Clark is late and clumsily high on Jack, it’s a red and Var confirms. A minute later he is rash in the challenge, it’s straight leg and a yellow is shown. Collum goes to check but sticks with the yellow. Then on ht St Johnstone should equalise as Wright goes through and looses his footing with goal gaping. 1-0 HT

Second was all Rangers and the second came as Kamara went through and finished well. A wrath of subs then disrupted the flow and Rangers become wayward and loose on the ball. It was a flat last thirty with Rangers venturing forward at times but nothing of note. Fashion Sakala more than one effort but Rangers coasted home to victory.

A comfortable afternoon.
